- Cal Week 2020
Dear campus community:
Welcome to the application to the best ASUC Office! The External Affairs Vice President's Office is tasked with representing 40,000 UC Berkeley students before local, state, and federal government officials. Our office is a collective of diverse, passionate, and motivated individuals. We fight for the rights of Cal students before the UC Regents, Berkeley City Council, California State Legislature, and Congress. Our office has sent countless students to Sacramento and Washington, D.C. to lobby our legislators. Additionally, we’ve registered thousands of voters and hosted CupcakKe and Waka Flocka Flame to help get out the vote! As we approach the census deadline and general election, making sure that students are counted and having their voices heard is a priority in our office.
From advocating for student assistance following COVID-19, helping pass ACA 5 to reinstate affirmative action, and advocating for defunding the Berkeley Police Department, our office and community members have stayed busy during this quarantine. We know that not all students will be in Berkeley this fall, but everyone, regardless of experience, background, or physical location, is encouraged to apply! Our meetings both departmental and all-staff will be available over Zoom too.
As British pop star of the decade, Dua Lipa, eloquently stated: “'Okay, no one else can create my future for me, and no one can get what I want for me, so I have to go out and get it myself."
We have 6 departments: Local Government Relations, State Government Relations, Federal Government Relations, Organizing, Civic Engagement: Vote Coalition and Census Engagement, and Communications. Read more about our departments, the work they do, and open positions at bit.ly/EAVPStructure. Look over our office flowchart below.
The priority deadline is Friday, July 20th at 11:59 pm. The final deadline for our office is Monday, August 3rd at 11:59 pm. We will contact you for interviews and the next steps after you submit your application.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to External Affairs Vice President Derek Imai or Heads of Staff, Riya Master & Sam Warren. Congratulations on taking the first step! We are ecstatic to get to know your interest in the office and personal narrative. The EAVP's Office recognizes the importance of community first and foremost. We tie together a fervor of social activism with team building, inclusivity, and companionship.
