Office of Senator Dones: STEM Opportunities Director
Description

The STEM Opportunities Department will focus on providing tangible resources and professional development opportunities for low-income, first-generation, and marginalized students pursuing degrees related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The department will also work with the Administrative Advocacy Department on academic issues including entrance requirements for Data Science and Computer Science. Finally, the department will work directly with the Engineering Student Council and STEM-oriented RSO’s to change recruiting practices that keep marginalized students out of these organizations.

 

Qualifications

Detailed knowledge of STEM-oriented extracurricular programs on campus (including RSOs and pre-professional organizations), excellent writing skills, strong organizational and time management skills, experience managing a team, ability to multitask, etc.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead weekly SO Department meetings
  • Delegate tasks to SO Associates, Coordinators, and Interns
  • Conduct consistent outreach with STEM organizations both within and outside of the university
  • Remain up-to-date on university and community initiatives focused on providing resources to STEM students
  • Actively collaborate with other office members to ensure a productive and welcoming workplace

 

Commitment

  • < 10 hours/week
  • Required to attend all weekly staff meetings and department breakout sessions
