The STEM Opportunities Department will focus on providing tangible resources and professional development opportunities for low-income, first-generation, and marginalized students pursuing degrees related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The department will also work with the Administrative Advocacy Department on academic issues including entrance requirements for Data Science and Computer Science. Finally, the department will work directly with the Engineering Student Council and STEM-oriented RSO’s to change recruiting practices that keep marginalized students out of these organizations.
General knowledge of pre-existing resources that are available to STEM students on campus, interest in increasing resources and pre-professional opportunities for marginalized students, confidence in public speaking and conducting community outreach, excellent writing skills, interpersonal communication, ability to multitask, etc.
