Description

The STEM Opportunities Department will focus on providing tangible resources and professional development opportunities for low-income, first-generation, and marginalized students pursuing degrees related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The department will also work with the Administrative Advocacy Department on academic issues including entrance requirements for Data Science and Computer Science. Finally, the department will work directly with the Engineering Student Council and STEM-oriented RSO’s to change recruiting practices that keep marginalized students out of these organizations.

 

Qualifications

Interest in increasing the resources available to students pursuing pre-health degrees at Cal, excellent writing skills, passion for community building and communicating with other pre-health students, etc.

 

Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in weekly SO Department meetings
  • Remain informed of pre-health opportunities as they arise throughout the course of the academic year
  • Conduct outreach with health-oriented organizations both within the university and surrounding community

 

Commitment

  • < 4  hours/week
  • Required to attend all weekly department breakout sessions
