Description

The STEM Opportunities Department will focus on providing tangible resources and professional development opportunities for low-income, first-generation, and marginalized students pursuing degrees related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The department will also work with the Administrative Advocacy Department on academic issues including entrance requirements for Data Science and Computer Science. Finally, the department will work directly with the Engineering Student Council and STEM-oriented RSO’s to change recruiting practices that keep marginalized students out of these organizations.

 

Qualifications

Passion for providing internship opportunities to STEM students, interest in improving administrative skills in computer programs such as Excel and Word, excellent writing skills, confidence in verbal communication when interfacing with students and community leaders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in weekly SO Department meetings
  • Collaborate with SO Associates and Interns to plan networking events over the course of the academic year
  • Remain informed of available internship opportunities in the respective Fall and Spring semesters
  • Assist office executives in disseminating information about resumes, cover letters, etc.
  • Additional responsibilities at the discretion of a department executive

 

Commitment

  • < 4  hours/week
  • Required to attend all weekly department breakout sessions
