Office of Senator Dones: Internships Coordinator
Description

The STEM Opportunities Department will focus on providing tangible resources and professional development opportunities for low-income, first-generation, and marginalized students pursuing degrees related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The department will also work with the Administrative Advocacy Department on academic issues including entrance requirements for Data Science and Computer Science. Finally, the department will work directly with the Engineering Student Council and STEM-oriented RSO’s to change recruiting practices that keep marginalized students out of these organizations.

 

Qualifications

Interest in seeking out internship opportunities for STEM and pre-health students at Cal, efficiency in conducting administrative tasks such as responding to emails and returning phone calls, passion for working alongside aspiring STEM professionals in the UC Berkeley community, excellent writing skills, ability to manage large-scale projects and tasks, etc.

 

Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in weekly SO Department meetings
  • Maintain consistent communication with office executives and Senator Dones about potential internship opportunities for students in STEM
  • Conduct community outreach to STEM-related organizations and businesses in the Berkeley area in order to find any available internships
  • Facilitate information sessions for STEM students seeking mentorship about professional resources such as resumes, cover letters, and interview tips

 

Commitment

  • < 6 hours/week
  • Required to attend all weekly staff meetings and department breakout sessions
