Commissions are quasi-autonomous advocacy units within the ASUC that serve as the delegated official ASUC spokespersons for the respective subject matters. They are charged with promoting the general welfare of the student body by accomplishing substantive work (e.g. changing campus policies) rather than serving just as liaisons to other organizations.
Commission chairs serve as the chief executive of their respective commission, convene public noticed meetings of the commission at least once every four weeks, and recruit commission members with the assistance of the Chief Personnel Officer. They also perform certain other duties found in ASUC Bylaw 3301 - Commissions, their commission's respective charter-bylaw, and other sections of the ASUC governing documents.

Commission chairs' terms begin after the last day of spring finals for the current academic year and end on the last day of spring finals for the next academic year.
