Academic Senate

The Academic Senate represents the faculty in the "shared governance" of the University of California by giving University faculty a voice in the operation of the University. At UC Berkeley there are 32 committees in the Academic Senate, which discuss and determine various academic, campus and university policies. Of the 32 committees, 14 include undergraduate student representatives. Students not only have a voting seat on the committee, but also are greatly valued for the perspective that they bring to committee discussions. You can learn more about the Academic Senate at http://academic-senate.berkeley.edu/index.html

The Academic Affairs Office is looking for strong student leaders to represent the student voice and work in coalition with faculty and administration to ensure that our academic and educational needs are met. This year the AAVP Office will implement a new online system for representatives to upload public information from Academic Senate committee meetings and receive feedback from the student body. We will also lead town halls and discussions to better educate students about current issues in academic and campus policies, and empower students to engage in our education.

Apply to participate in Academic Senate by June 30, 2010: Download Application
